Things to do before a trip

These are not how and what to pack tips for a trip but rather the things that you need to do to your home so that you can relax after a trip.  The things that you should do so that when you open your door you don't take a look or even worse a sniff and want to flee.  Trust me I have I learned from my mistakes.

1.  Make up your bed. There is nothing like coming home from any trip and sleeping in your own bed. The fact that your bed is neatly made up just makes it that much more inviting.

2. Wash your dirty dishes.  Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink or dishwasher because after a few days they are hard to clean.  Oatmeal is especially hard to remove from a bowl because after three days it turns into concrete and you might as well throw the bowl away.

3. Flush the toilets.  Please just check and do.  I don't ever want to remember that horror again but it did involve my brother.

4. Clean the litter box.  You only have to do this if you actually have one that is being used.

5. Clean out the fridge.  Fruits and veggies turn into science experiments if they are left for too long in a dark and cold place.

6. Take out the trash.  Really I shouldn't have to explain this but if you have cleaned out food and then leave it in the garbage bag it will mutate and you do not want to go near it.

7. Vacuum your house.  You only have to remove the worst of the dirt and if you have pets about a ton of fur.  Walking into a clean home is relaxing and after most trips that is what you need.

8.  Clean out your microwave oven.  This is the most important thing you can do.  But only because I learned about it last month.  I had heated up some green beans for supper and then changed my mind and left them in there thinking I would take them out later.  However, they slipped my mind and when I  opened the microwave door a few days later a foul and evil stench emerged.  It was bad and it took days to get the smell out of the microwave.  So don't do it.  Always check the microwave.
